The main goal of AQUAMONITOR project is the development of new optical fiber sensors for real time analysis of chemical parameters for water quality control. In particular the project main target was the determination of dissolved CO2 in hyper intensive aquaculture facilities. To attain these generic goal the specific particular objectives were also pursued:

  1. Fabrication of new fiber optic sensing probes for refractometric based configurations.

  2. Development of optically based Instrumentation for high sensitivity sensor interrogation.

  3. Implementation of multiplexing and reference schemes (temperature compensation)

  4. Development of sensing membranes that change refractive index in the presence of chemical analytes (dCO2)

  5. Development of methodologies to test and validate new and standard sensors for the aquaculture industry in realistic conditions.

Additional goals of the project included the promotion of an interdisciplinary cooperation environment for the partner organizations, including the training of advanced human resources, and the attraction of new partners.
