Prof. Maria Teresa Borges

Prof. Maria Teresa Borges obtained her PhD in Biology from University of Porto in 1993 in collaboration with University of Santiago Compostela (Spain). She is currently Assistant Professor. Her research work focuses on water quality in aquaculture, more specifically in recirculation marine systems. Studies include biological solutions for effluent treatment, reuse and valorization (bacterial biofiltration, microalgae, and integrated aquaculture systems) and direct and real-time system monitoring.

The AQUAMONITOR Team is composed of various specialists in their respective fields, creating a dynamic, highly technical and multinational consortium.

MSc João Jesus

João Jesus graduated in Environmental Sciences and Technology from Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, in 2008 and has completed his MSc. in the same area. Since 2009 he has worked in dissolved CO2 continuous monitoring as is currently a researcher of AQUAMONITOR project.

Prof. Carlos M. Pereira

Prof. Carlos M. Pereira obtained his PhD in Chemistry from University of Porto in 1997 under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Silva. He is currently Assistant Professor. His research work focuses on analytical applications of liquid–liquid interfaces, electrochemical sensors and characterization of surfaces modified by nanoparticles and composites films and ionic liquid–electrode interfaces.

Carlos J. Gouveia

Carlos J. Gouveia graduated with a Degree in electronics and telecommunication engineering, in 2007, and the MSc. degree in telecommunications and networks, in 2008, from the University of Madeira, Portugal. Currently, he is a PhD student in University of Madeira, work in the Optoelectronics Group of INESC Porto. His research interests are on optical fiber sensors and interrogation systems for chemical and biochemical applications.

Dr. Pedro A. S. Jorge

Pedro A. S. Jorge graduated in applied physics (optics and lasers) from the University of Minho in 1996. He received his M.Sc. in optoelectronics and lasers from the physics department of the University of Porto in 2000. In 2006, he concluded his Ph.D. program at Porto University in collaboration with the department of physics and optical sciences at the University of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, with work developed in luminescence based optical fiber. He is currently a senior researcher at INESC Porto, where he leads a team in the development of biochemical sensors for environmental and medical applications.
